Whenever I go to the activation site, enter my login along with the key that starts there due to the link, and hit activate, I get an error message, either
"Unable to connect to server (I forget the exact message, only got this error once)" or simply "An unknown error has occurred." After waiting for a while, the errors appear.

Edit: Apparently the whole server is down. I thought the isssue described on the home page only affected those who had already activated their account and were ingame. Sorry for the pointless topic >.<.
