I haven't played the game but I'm under the impression it has a lot of Beatles references that would have to be removed

Earthbound is the one plagued with Beatles reference, Mother 3 has very little to do with license issues.

I'll wait on someone else to attest to the accuracy of this but either way I don't think "plagued" is the word to use here

Alright, not plagued but there are plenty more musical references in Earthbound than in Mother 3, so clearly that's not the problem.
I personally think the problem is that Mother 3's story is much, much darker than the other two entries, so the localization team isn't sure if they should censor it to reach at least Teen ESRB or just translate it and give it a M rating.
I personally wouldn't mind the latter.

Did anyone see the Japanese direct and saw that Mother 3 is on wiiu . No one. Ok. I understand if no one cares unless its coming to other countries and you can "E" it as well lol. Just thought its interesting thing to see.
