The radiation from Japan came to California yesterday. But it was so weak it was hardly noticable and barely effected anything.

But who knows. Maybe some guy just got a third arm from the radiation.

... Goddamn it, comic books ruined any chance to teach this generation how radiation ACTUALLY works.

Someone said something about nuclear reactors blowing up? Well something just did, the second time since the earthquake.

Yeah, I heard that the nuclear radiation level is so high that It is spreading to here in the USA. Some are predicting that it will reach here in Michigan.

Who are you listening to, Glenn Beck?

It didn't explode or have a meltdown, it was just leaking.
... Have you SEEN the pictures of the reactors?

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure reactor 4 used to have a ROOF.

That is not the containment chamber, only the outer casing.

There is no extreme emergency yet.

Have you ever seen pictures of how f*** up Chernobyl still is?
I think even the slightest chance of one of these things blowing up should be counted as an "extreme emergency"
also note that pointing out cartoon science isn't really "showing how smart you are" so much as "showing everyone how mentally impaired you aren't"

Besides that I think Hakker should note that that other guy was clearly joking

Except Chernobyl's cause was much different than what is going on.

Japan's nuclear reactor infrastructure is much better than Russia's, mainly because the Soviets couldn't build a decent reactor to save their life.

Japan's were built after the international standards for reactors were put in place, therefore the chance of a meltdown similar to Chernobyl are not high.

If you meant that just the fallout in general, well yeah, that is an extreme emergency, but it hasn't reached that level of severity just yet. Maybe in a few weeks, but as of now, no.

Regardless of how good the reactor's structure is, all reactor problems should still be treated as an emergency. If we were to act in full before it became serious, the chances of disaster would be reduced even further.

But they really are reacting as best as they can.
There are workers in the reactors all around the clock just trying to calm the storm.

I know that, I wasn't talking about this incident specifically. I was replying to your comment.

50 as of the last count, I believe.

How high are the radiation levels IN the reactors, anyway? That close to the leak, they must be dangerously high for the workers.

The workers volunteered to do it, knowing that they would die of radiation sickness eventually.

So far I've read that the radiation levels in the control room are about 10,000 times the normal levels. With radiation that high just in the control room, I don't blame them for not measuring the reactors.
I've also read that those 50 workers were pulled out.
