This. Combos aren't really that impressive when there's no DI involved.

I like using Marth and he seems to be 2nd or 3rd place in my mains, but I can't seem to get his combos down. Tips, anyone?

Assuming you know his moveset.

- Utilt, uthrow, uair, fair, Dancing Blade, and fthrow are great combo moves, so be sure to try them out and experiment with them a bit to get the hang of they're feel.
Utilt'ing your opponent works if you're able to keep up and chase em' down.
The first hits of Dancing blade can chain into about anything.

- Dolphin Slash, Jab, and Dancing Blade are good 'get off of me' moves.
Especially DS OoS (Out of Shield)

- Keep in mind you lack a good vertical recovery.
Dolphin Blade sitnks at this.

- Shield Breaker is situational, but can help with recovering horizontally. Note it's ending lag.
You can use it to break shields, but's it not a surprise if it doesn't break em'.

- Dtilt, fsmash, and other far reaching moves (pretty much his whole moveset) are pretty good for edgeguarding onstage.
Dtilt is a good spacing/poking tool too, crouch-canceled retreating fsmash is really good too.

- You'll be KO'ing early with tippered aerials and smashes, non tippered work at high %'s.
Marth isn't exactly the king when it comes to getting kills, remember this.

- Keep in mind Marth lacks a projectile, he's lightweight, he's a big target.
Know your weaknesses and drawbacks.

That's about everything in a nutshell.

If ya have any other questions, feel free to ask me.

The more I think about it, the more I realize Marth is actually kinda bad. He doesn't lose super hard to a lot of characters, but he doesn't perform that well against a lot of characters. The characters he beats he tends to beat hard, but he gets gimped/janked so easy.

He has low kill power and a worse recovery than Melee due to the fact that the stages in this game don't have the lenient edge physics that they did in Melee: you can't ride most of them up the edge. For chars with low range, no good projectiles, and no good offstage game he does serious work, but for characters that have those characteristics he really struggles.

Marth would be a great character if the projectiles in this game were toned down a little, and I think a fair amount of them should be.

You can get rid of Samus' missles by dash attacking them.
They're pretty toned to me. :P

That isn't exactly the easiest thing to do in online lol. Would look to use platforms to get above his horizontal space control. If he jumps onto the platforms to continue just get under him and juggle. Alternatively, anticipate when he will throw a clone and full jump for a perfect counterattack.

At least, not right now. . .

But yes, Marth's frame-data on Front-tilt is a bit off. It's slow to come out, so it's not as great of a poke-tool like it's known for.

The funny thing about it is that it reaches higher than Marth's fsmash XD. Marth can't hit someone on BF's platforms with fsmash but he can with ftilt.
