So hey, it's November already! That means a bunch of stupid video game award shows are warming their gears up. And since those are usually voted on by a bunch of idiots who actually get paid to write about video games (and probably tell people at family reunions that they report on "technology news" or something lmao), I figured we should just ignore all of those and have our own awards, voted for by us.

I'll be doing it via Google Docs survey, since using the forum poll system would require either needing too many topics or would result in people missing out on voting for certain awards

Currently taking suggestions for categories. We'll have the obvious ones - game of the year, best soundtrack, best visual design, etc. and there's also going to be a "reason to buy" award for best exclusive to cut down on "best [x console] game" awards

Also, two questions:

1. Should we have the options for each award be a selection from a list or open choice? If we have a list then some people might not get to vote for the game they want, but if we have it as open choice then the votes might be really spread out.
2. Should we have any "anti-awards"? I don't really like being negative when doing stuff like this, but if you guys want "Worst Game of the Year" or something like that, I'll include it. I'll vote for MGSV as Biggest Disappointment ;__;

I don't think a lot of bad awards are necessary, especially when "worst game of the year" to most people means "biggest flop" when in reality the worst game of the year was probably some nothing shovelware Activision shat out for the tween girl demographic. That said I'd definitely get behind a Biggest Disappointment or perhaps Blunder of the Year

Voting in each category should be from a set number of nominations. Sucks that some people's actual choice won't be present, but it's the comparatively lesser evil

Also I don't think I need to say this but definitely don't start the voting until 2016 lol

not that anyone should be buying xenoblade x anyway thanks to the godawful localisation

at the very least it gives people time to finish those games

"Best Protagonist" and/or "Best Villain" categories spring to mind immediately, also "best writing"

also on the flipside, there could be "worst" editions of each of these categories

that implies that any video game has good writing though

I think it'd be fair enough if we did voting at the very end of December. Like, the 29th or so. Companies aren't gonna release new video games right after Christmas.

Also, avoid any "personality of the year" awards like the god damn plague. I don't care about internet celebrities, I don't care about esports champions.

If we're going to have any anti-awards, I'd definitely say "most disappointing franchise revival". Seems that everything that's come back this year has failed in one huge way or another.
