I actually wanted Geno just because I think it would be incredible to have Ridley, K Rool and Geno together. the big three that for over a decade never could, but somehow made it.

If you actually watched the direct, you'd know there's a $25 season pass to get 5 characters, 5 stages, and a Rex costume for your Mii.
The website makes it clear that Piranha Plant is NOT one of that five.

If you buy Ultimate before January 31st, 2019, you will get Plant for free, otherwise it's gonna cost ya.

So it IS pretty much Smash 4's situation then. And yes I completely forgot about the direct, I just watched PP's reveal trailer afterwards. Cheers for the info

The gosh dang story mode I've been wanting for so long almost makes up for Waluigi's absence! It's basically Infinity War and Avengers 4 but it's Smash. Extreme hype!!!!

^The Sakurai bias makes me wonder if the Kid Icarus characters will have a pivotal role in the story as well

Here's something crazy I just thought of:

When you free everyone, beat the master hand army and finally get to winged thanos in the World of Light, he tries to do another snap charges up and fires a really big light beam to make everyone not feel so good but suddenly it gets deflected right back into him and damages his wings. Then it's revealed that the deflection was done by....A tennis racket! Cue Waluigi's entrance and the final battle!

Then when you finally beat the gleaming titan, he tries to self destruct the whole world of light while tries to close the gate that got you here. Waluigi decides to stay behind to buy time to escape while the others sadly leave (Wario has to be dragged) to safety and witness an enormous explosion where the gate used to be before it closed. They mourn Waluigi but decide to move on and honor him. Cue credits...but after the credits, you see a familiar hat on the ground...and then a familiar person picks it up, puts it back on his head and chuckles before walking towards where everyone else went. Cue Congratulations scene with everyone AND Waluigi being here.

But that's just a dream which will never happen. Still, we got the WAA in SSF2 and that's enough for me.

After seeing Isabelle gameplay I even like her mine & rod a lot. All the new characters seem excellent
