Anyway, with regards to this point, I think you can really only say you play "with a competitive mindset" if you haven't been to tournaments.

Im confused.

That's pretty much the people in this topic try to do to me all the time anyway and it gets pretty frustrating. And I am the one that has to suffer for it in the long run. Apparently it's might fault that I am not in a environment where I can go to competitive tournaments.

I've only recently noticed how cancerously some of the people who frequent this thread tend to respond to new people and one another. It completely unacceptable, and I will go out of my way to issue warnings to users who present this type of behavior in the future. It's unnecessary and elitist.

Ok, basically what I mean is that you're playing with competitive rules, however you aren't competing for anything, hence why you're playing with a competitive mindset

excuse me? i'm not trying to bait him at all, i'm being as clear cut as i possibly can. don't blame me that he's getting upset over something he isn't.

if you have not been to a tournament, you do not play competitively. you play with a competitive mindset. quite frankly, if you have not experienced tournament play, you probably aren't good at the game either. i'm not being mean, i'm being straightforward. right now you are probably trash. it's hella unlikely you're going to go into a tournament and place because you lack competitive experience.

if you have not played for the money, you have not played competitively, thanks!

also, nobody has said it is your fault. that doesn't change anything. just because there are no Under Night tournaments in my area doesn't mean i'm a competitive Under Night player. just because i do not attend Melee weeklies does not mean i'm a competitive Melee player, because i'm not. i've never attended a tournament, i've never competed. how are you a competitive player if you have not competed?

it does not matter how big the tournaments nearby you are. you aren't less of a competitive player just because you attend weeklies. i didn't attend Come To Papa when it's hella close to me. i just play at weeklies because i have better things to do.

EDIT: also, my intention wasn't to bait by any means. i didn't notice the conversation started with bait actually, i read the "going to be part of the community" and everything past that, not before

that looks like bait

Being "competitive" doesn't mean that you enter tournaments. It merely means that you play against others with the intent to win.

Being "part of the community" doesn't mean that you enter tournaments. You are pretty much "part of the community" by default if you interact with others who also play the game.

You don't tell people that they suck because they don't go to tournaments. If they aren't as good as they think, they would find that out themselves when they tried it. But how would telling somebody that they suck encourage them to go to a tournament?

I don't understand why people who like Smash so much have to hate everyone else who likes Smash for different reasons. This is why I lurk, really. Whenever I participate in discussion, it is a draining and depressing experience.

When the quiet kid in class drops some truth, lol.
I don't know, I think it's kinda like they don't think the other parties reason for liking smash is... comparable?
A casual doesn't really care either way, and technically by default you're always competing when you play a fighting game.

being bad at the game isn't a particularly bad thing, as odd as it sounds. everyone is bad at some point, and that's why they should go to tournaments; as a wake-up call. go to tournaments to get your a** kicked. it's how you improve.

i am referring to the tournament-playing community when I PERSONALLY refer to the community. your definition and mine might not be the same.

but whatever, i'm done, this argument is f*** stupid anyways now that we're bringing this "technically" s*** into it

You started this s*** just sayin. If you didn't have the incentive to say that I am a bad player it wouldn't have come to this.
People will always get the fact to say that I am a bad player when I don't stuff at all which doesn't make any sense. Half of the s*** that people say in this forum don't make sense at all honestly.
