I never understood why people complained about Lloyd and Naruto, but never complained about Marth and ZSS. Anyway... Naruto isn't as bad as people make him out to be. He has some questionable air priority and his recovery is sub-par. Plus people need to learn which moves destroy side special (Though Naruto can still by annoying to play against).

I never seen people complain about Marth in my experience. Doesn't matter though... Soon the Dev's will Smash 4ify him.

Naruto isn't quite top-tier, but that's really only because there are characters that have tools even more rediculous than his. He is currently ranked 9th on the SSF2 Back Room's official tier list, right at the top of A tier.

Naruto is pretty busted. There are definitely some tools in his kit that are unhealthy for the game long-term, such as dash attack and Rasenshuriken. Like I said, though, it just so happens that there are eight characters even more broken than he is, which is why he isn't top tier. I practially never use up throw because of how amazing all of Naruto's other throws are, but I'll definitely try it out. What characters are you hitting with up throw > up special?

Anti-Naruto strategy I discovered while streaming: the stun on his dthrow can be smash di'd enough the the down part of the throw will never connect. You have to SDI away from Naruto in front of him, and since it's a slow throw you should have plenty of time. Just mash left or right, whichever puts you away from Naruto. I don't know if just directional buttons are enough, you may need c-stick buttons to SDI enough distance.
As long as you mash enough, you should be able to do this with 98% consistency.

I went back to the testing lab, and it seemed to work better against floaties, but di'ing away with anyone seemed to avoid it. However against peach, it could be covered by fair, while against fox it was covered by dash attack at lox percents. But this is talking ai di, so I guess I now got 2 questions, how viable is if they don't di too far away, a how well can you make up for the di Or really, should this throw just be a mixup with few options, and nothing more

Well, this is weird. The mash only works with certain characters. Others are locked in place until the hit. I tested this with everyone; here are the results: Can escape Donkey Kong Link Samus Mega Man Fox Sonic Peach Wario Zelda Sheik Zero Suit Samus Bomberman Captain Falcon Tails Yoshi Marth Chibi-Robo Ichigo Naruto Goku Cannot escape Mario Kirby Ness Pikachu Meta Knight Black Mage Rondoudou Lloyd Sora My best guess is that this has to do with character size, as most of the characters who get trapped are on the smaller end. I have no idea why the dimensions of a character's hurtbox would affect whether or not they are allowed to Smash DI a move or not, though. It really makes no sense at all.

Here is an example.Both defending characters are mashing right+Cstick right. Mario, who cannot escape, goes nowhere, while Donkey Kong avoids the punch entirely. Edit: It just occured to me that it's likely possible to hit escaping characters with Rasenshuriken because of how early Naruto can act after the Dthrow punch. Not as a true combo, certainly, but I think it works as a frame-trap. All is not lost!
