It's happened in the past, of course it could.

Luckily, we have a big ole' moon circling around us acting as a shield.

Chances are slim.

But what if the moon were to lose grip and hurtle toward the Earth? Not much of shield.

Comets are just ice and dirt flying at incredible speeds.

Now if an Asteroid hit Earth...

It says Nbc right in the link, so of course it's nonsense.

MOAR FEAR-MONGERING!

In all seriousness, I think I'd be dead by the time the next mass-extinction even slams in to the Earth.

And of course, people on the other side of the Earth would be a-ok.

actually, it has been falling to earth as long as it has been a satellite, if you throw something hard enough, it will curve away and fall forever to the earth, its the laws of gravity and physics.

Oh yeah, I forgot I used to believe the moon was on a collision course with the Earth sometime in the next few million years, give or take a billion.

It's been proven that throughout the history of time, all species that have an era of huge growth of population end up having a giant mass decline in population sometime later, although many believe the humans are different because we're smarter.

Jupiter is actually another big shield. It's proven that its gigantic mass has caused the majority of comets/asteroids/etc etc etc to hit it instead of the smaller planets (Otherwise Planet Earth wouldn't even exist).
