This one may not be the best topic for the youngest members.
Just a little warning.

An increasing number of babies born to Central Asian migrant workers are abandoned in Moscow maternity hospitals. Diloram Ibrahimova, of the BBC's Central Asia and Caucasus Service, meets some of those struggling to tackle this trend.

Actually, what surprises me is that there seems to be very little actual trafficking involved, from what I get from the article. While there is a large amount of human trafficking happening in those countries. [I think this is an important fact: most victims of human trafficking end up in labour slavery, not sex slavery. This is a common misconception.]

Anyway, on topic, that law:

Yes, that law.
... that law seems very odd to me. You would expect that mothers would be counseled on that. (Yes, I know Russia ain't the best place to live [/underling of understatements])

I can't imagine how terrible it must feel to realize that your kid had been adopted since you had dropped them off at the orphanage for more than 6 months.

Neither can I.

The most sour thing of all is.. many of these women are illiterate, many of them cannot speak Russian... it is awful.
