I think it has something to do with academic versions being given to schools and colleges - they might need to be able to be registered on more than one computer in a network.
Whereas the standard ones are one-use applications. But I'm not sure seeing as how it is legal to install software on more than one of your own machines if you purchase the product, but then again Microsoft don't allow the same serial number to be registered to one computer so who knows.

i think it has something to do with the features or tools. academic might be more simple because it's for schools?
that other thing might be more advanced and for pros?

Acedemic and standard versions are EXACTLY the same thing.
Seriously, has NOBODY on this forum ever used flash before?
Acedemic versions are the EXACT same program as the standard. I don't mean that someone decided to make two versions of the software, one with the Acedemic version on it, one without it, they are LITERALLY the same program, with the same install file, same everything.
Acedemic versions are only different in that the license costs significantly less, and you have to be registered with a school as a teacher or student in order to acquire a license.

. . .
What.
So, you're saying that if I cut open a package with cheap kiddie scissors instead of more expensive adult scissors that the object inside the package magically changes to an identical copy of the same product?
