I think the Commander Video trophy included in WiiU was more or less the only shout-out the indie community is going to get from Smash.

If you say so, though I still disagree. I consider it an eventuality, if anything... I'll always have my hopes up for a popular indie character in Smash. A man can dream.

I don't think anyone remembers your reaction and it was obvious Waluigi wasn't going to be playable, so I'm not sure what your point is.

If they're going to add an indie character (they prob won't) I'd rather it be someone with a real lasting legacy than the FOTM indie game. Only real argument for shovel knight is that it was pretty nintendo focused (only on PC and nintendo consoles) but I don't think that matters that much.

I honestly think Shantae is a bit more likely than Shovel Knight, because she has had a much better history with nintendo than him.
I'd rather have a 1st party character as DLC, but I wouldn't mind having an Indie character in the game, though.

What indie character has this "real lasting legacy?"

Quote and meat boy were both undeniably more important characters and their games were more successful by any measure. I don't think they're going to get in smash bros obviously but I'd much rather have one of them than a character that's just more recent. There are plenty of other examples but you get the idea.

Tbh the only indie game that approaches the widespread popularity that would be needed for smash bros is minecraft, but that isn't happening/would be terrible for plenty of reasons lol. Also I guess it's not indie anymore.

I think I'm understanding the mentality on indie characters now, because someone like Meat Boy seems like a long shot.

I was gonna say something about Minecraft's Steve (or Alex, whatever floats your boat), but didn't mention it for similar reasons.

I remember having an idea for Steve as a charater that involved him using his bow for aerials, a wolf as his down-b, minecart as his side-b, potion/bow as his neutral-b and building a dirt tower as his up-b.
Or something like that.
