Therefore, what you said is wrong, sir!

That's more of a lack of belief than a belief.

So power to you. :headbang:

@Whim, I laughed at your Revelations thing, I wasn't implying inadequacy or anything, I was merely pointing it out.

However, before I continue to engage in any proper form of debate (ironic that it's happening here, isn't it :P), I need you to answer some questions so I can understand where you're coming from properly

1. How do you interpret what Jesus says when he specifically mentions "the resurrection" (eg. Matthew 22:30)
2. What is your explanation for the deaths of all of the apostles (except John) that were a result of their beliefs? Why not live as asked, but reject Jesus and keep on living as there would be no consequences after death? How did Jesus' best friends get it so wrong?
3. How do you explain the masses of people who exploit others and die happy (eg. slave traders back in the day when it didn't prick the conscience)?

Once you've answered these questions, it should be easier to engage in a proper discussion.

And in said arguments, I target religion in general rather than Christianity specifically.

What is your evidence that attacks Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, and other religions then?

Or are you just not well versed in any of them to make an articulate argument against them?

No, I'm absolutely not. If anything I've said comes across as being directed at only Christianity and those similar to it, it's because I'm the most familiar with it. I'm not excusing it, that's just the way it is.

I don't understand this. Since atheism is based on the belief that there is no evidence to support a belief in any god, how could you come to that conclusion without looking at it?

Fun fact: Your standard Atheist has never read a whole religious book.

To be honest, I'm not sure I have either.

But at the very least, the validity of the claims of each religion should be looked into. Since atheism has no figure of authority, its claims are just a leap of faith (albeit in oneself) that every other religion's claims to validity are false.

It never hurts to read some Holy books, I mean, you should really read the Bible and the Koran.

I've only read the entire New Testament, because after getting halfway through the Torah I was like

lolwat

but the book of Job is a good read, too.

I still regret not having had the time to read the Koran, I can just tell reading it will give a very different impression than the one the media wants to give to it.

What, so I have to look into every single religion to uphold my stance that they're all s***?
As always there are going to be weird exceptions, but any religion is based on some sort of faith. Atheism isn't even really a belief or a faith. It's just accepting what we can learn from science.
Science adjusts its views based on what we can prove and figure out. Faith is the denial of said observations so that belief can be preserved.

Can it be said that you have faith in science?
