You guys are missing something important; He's only been shown as a trophy. He could still very well be a playable character or an assist trophy. It didn't say anything about him not being a AT/PC.

I've never played the game before but since I've heard about it I've always thought that Red was perfect for smash. Also if anything W101 is closer to being considered a 1st party than a 3rd party.

If Wonder Red was in, why didn't they show him when his game was released?

It was an untested, new IP. Having them announce he's in Smash would've boosted the sales just from people wanting to check his game out first. They would've had a lot to lose and nothing to gain from not announcing him when the game was new.

He's not in. It's been obvious he's not in since September.

I understand, I'm just saying that for all we know Sakurai could be playing with us. What if WR was announced as a PC during E3 with a Wonderful 101 sequel?

I don't think there's enough profitable demand for a Wonderful 102.

Platinum's games never sell, and yet Bayo 2 exists

The real problem is the idea that
a) The Wonderful 102 is already so far in production that they will be ready to show a trailer for it in a month
b) The Wonderful 102 was already planned out entirely before The Wonderful 101 had even released
c) Platinum/Sakurai made the decision not to announce the character with their game's actual release, but rather wait for the announcement of the sequel
d) Platinum & Nintendo were either so confident or so unconcerned about the sales of The Wonderful 101 that they greenlit The Wonderful 102 before they could possibly have any idea of how well The Wonderful 101 would sell
