For Marth, I kinda want either Lucina or Chrom only if neither of them get in. They're close enough that it could be plausible.

I think when Sakurai talked about alts "taking away the uniqueness of the character", he meant like what happens in the modding scene where the characters get replaced with totally different ones. It makes Ike less "Ike" and more "Heavy swordsman moveset"

Meaning: I think any alts we get will probably just be different looks for the same character, not whole new characters

I kinda hope Mario gets his Doctors garb back. Mario hasnt really been seen in many other outfits that werent from powerups.

I'd consider it similar to what Marvel VS Capcom 3 did. There are characters who have alternate costumes for completely different characters, but are similar enough for it not to matter. Zero as Megaman X being the prime example.

While Lucina would probably be a better choice of the two, even impersonating Marth for a while, either could be a reskin without a huge canon discrepancy.

Keep in mind this is still just speculation. For all we know, Lucina or Chrom could be in. Then comes the idea that they could be interchangeable...

Well yeah, but i meant something that was of a different design from his overalls. Of course i wouldnt mind if they just added in more colors, they could always replace the blue costume with Ice Mario (or not), and such like that.

Wonder if that'd get muddled with the Link and Zelda situation.

Maybe it'd be a very minor change, but I'd most like to see Young Link as Toon's alt. maybe it seems inconsequential, but what can I say, majora is my favorite video game ever.

Plus Skull kid is in, and it'd be cool to see them sharing the screen again

At least Marth/Lucina/Chrom are similarly proportioned rapier esque wielders.
Young Link/Toon Link are Powerpuff Girl versus realistic proportion, along with a completely different art style and arsenal.

But Young Link and Toon Link are both Link. Marth isn't Chrom, Chrom isn't Lucina, Lucina isn't Marth.
I'm not for either side, I'm actually opposed to both. Just sayin'.

I think a Lucina alt would be ridiculous for Marth, since it completely destroys the character (because you're playing with 'Marth' and not 'Lucina model swap over Marth'). I'd love to see an Awakening Costume alt for Marth though.
