It goes back to the 20th century from what I've heard. It's old and outdated now. I guess only older African-Americans would really understand it.

Edit: Apparently, white slave masters used to call their male slaves "boy" :\

like, god, everything is much more expensive than in just 8 years!! those gold times where you could buy a coke, a bag of chips and a chocolate bar for 2 or so... now all that is probably more expensive than 15...
