i wouldn't be confident any character is staying in to be honest unless they're SO SUPER IMPORTANT like link, mario, or pikachu

we don't really know what's going on in development and we don't know how close some characters were to being cut. maybe ness was really close to being cut in brawl too and we don't know it.

now, i'm not saying ness will be cut but i'm saying in general not to think anyone is 1000000% confirmed

I wouldn't hate Miis. They would be a pretty good idea from Nintendo's perspective - obviously I don't have the numbers but there are a s*** of non-gamers who have played Wii Sports or Wii Fit or whatever, and have done it with their Miis. There might be more people who have played as a Mii than people who have played as Mario. I mean hell, they put Wii Sports in retirement homes. My mom played Wii Fit for physical therapy when she was having back problems. My f*** grandpa who cannot even begin to give a s*** about video games plays Wii Bowling all the time

To be honest, i dont see any similarity between those two other than the hair and clothes colors. I dont see why we cant have a Mii character, i mean i havent played any of the Mii games, nor have i played any Animal Crossing games, but would they really be similar enough to warrant not wanting both? Mii's are very popular these days, i would be surprised if they didnt have a character rep this time around.

Besides, having a Mii character could offer a way to pseudo-customize a character, since you would likely be able to change their appearance to whatever Mii attributes you have on your system. So they could possibly fit into a broad range of character archetypes.

Of course we don't know the ins and outs of smash bros' development in it's entirety, but what was said was Lucas was originally going to be included as a playable character, but Lucas was decided to be left out because Mother 3 wasn't going to be out by the time melee was released, or something along those lines. It wasn't because they were behind schedule and were like "s*** guys let's just do ness". Sakurai said 'various reasons' in his quote, and that lucas was the 'original plan' or something like that.
