I'd say you're right, but used a wrong example. Every Smash title has had a throwback retro character- Melee had Ice Climbers and Mr. Game and Watch, Brawl had Pit and R.O.B., Smash 4 has Duck Hunt. And also, each Smash title has had a "who"- Melee had Marth and Roy, Brawl had Lucas (to be fair, Earthbound fanboys do in fact know who he is, but pretty much nobody else does) and Smash 4 has Shulk.

No they didn’t
Everyone cried about Nintendo not localising Xenoblade and then nobody actually played it when they did because it was a Wii game in 2011/2012 lol
Smash got more people to play Xenoblade than the other way around without a doubt
also put Pyra or Nia in this game the series needs more cute girls

Hmmm...I thought for sure I remembered him being a fairly requested character. But I’ll take your word for it. Honestly I’m kinda hoping this is just a deluxe port. I feel like it’s a little to soon to be a new game. And yeah it’s been 4yrs but considering how Sakura talks about the strain this game puts on him, matching the time up he would’ve been working on smash for the last 3-4 years. Leaves no room for a break. It’s possible but I don’t see it. And before you say it, a deluxe port could have a BotW Link alt, no evidence points to it being a new character completely or a full on update of Link.
