-Which characters do you play in SSF2? Why do you play these characters?

My main is Ness. His smash attacks have great range and his yo-yo attacks can chain into great combos and build up some great damage. His recovery is both a hit-and miss for me but I like it both as an attack and as a recovery (even though sometimes it can be annoying for it not to go the way I want it to go -_-). His PK fire gives me some time to build up some great damage onto my opponent (I don't spam it. I promise) while they are too distracted by the fire to even defend against them. Plus his down smash can spike (drop KO for people who don't know. Yes even at 0%) which is extremely useful for dealing with annoying opponents and can even launch into a combo (double upward smash then baseball bat). It's just right for my playstyle which is mostly an up-in-your-face type of playstyle.

My secondary is Link. His boomerang can cause some great damage if you combine that with the exploding arrow then do a side smash when the enemy is coming towards you. His downward smash can also KO at 60% regardless of who the character is...as far as I know at least. All of his attacks are strong but he doesn't have the combo chaining that Ness has in my opinion.

I also play Lloyd but I don't use him as much since his recovery is pretty bad in my opinion. He's a very agile character and he has great air combos. But the recovery is just not as good in my opinion and is ultimately what keeps me from using him.

-How much experience do you have with official Smash titles? [/b][i](SSB64, Melee, Brawl. Include in this answer which characters you play/played.)

I played the 3DS version and I must say that Toon Link is officially my main in that game. He is very agile and his arsenal of bombs, boomerangs, and arrows are extremely useful and can surprisingly chain into a KO if you do an air slash. He can also spike (you HAVE to stay at the edge but make sure you don't fall off) with his downward smash. He is just really good if you know how to use him.

I also use Zero Suit Samus who is very agile but her smash attacks aren't as effective as toon link's. Sometimes they miss (especially the recovery kick) or just don't kill them (her smash attacks in general). Basically, you have to work just a little harder for a kill with Zero Suit.

But overall, the 3DS version is really great but I don't really like how strong Little Mac is. His smash attacks are really strong and the KO move is just instant death if it gets you (most of the time) which I don't really see the point in having since he already has strong moves to begin with.

-Have you ever attended any Smash tournaments? If so, give some details about the tournament (number of participants, which games, etc). How well did you place?

Nope. Never been in any tournaments.

-When did you start playing SSF2?

Back when I was a child in elementary school, I played this game called Super Smash Flash. I thought it was great at the time but around my middle school years, I picked up SSF2 which was LEAGUES better. Improved combat, the moves actually make a difference (In the first game, it didn't matter what attack you did, it kinda had the same effect. As far as I can recall though).

So I continued to play throughout each update (Why the heck did they take out the choice to change sora's spell type with a down special? I really liked that! And why is his recovery still garbage?) and had my own Pros and Cons with them.

And now, well...here I am...still steaming over how laggy and buggy online mode still is. Combine that with some of the cheapness in there (Ichigo dash spam. Easy to deal with though.) and you can imagine how I feel.

-What is your favorite stage in SSF2? Explain.

Final Destination. It is the most balanced stage in my opinion. No other platforms, nothing on the stage can kill you, no other things.

Just you, me, and my Ness.

But I suppose that the close combat characters are at a disadvantage compared to the ranged characters when it comes to Final Destination. But regardless, I still feel that its one of my favorite stage.

-Who, in your opinion, should be placed first on the SSF2 tier list? Under competitive settings why would this character perform on a higher level than all others?

I would have said Black Mage before he was nerfed but now I kinda feel that Naruto should be placed first.

First off, his down smash can spike. Like REALLY spike. I would say its stronger than Ness's and has more range. The way he lifts his foot and slams it on top of you has some surprising range.

Plus his rasenshuriken does some massive damage (god help you if he catches you in it and hits you with the Rasenshuriken) and his normal rasengan is also pretty strong. And his smash attacks are pretty damn effective. I went flying at like 60-70% due to one of his kicks and actually had some difficulty getting back on the stage cause of...the spike.

His grabs also seem to be really effective.

-Who, in your opinion, should be placed last on the SSF2 tier list? Under competitive settings why would this character perform on a lower level than all others?

Kirby deserves to be in the bottom tier in my opinion.

His smash attacks are predictable and can be stopped pretty easily, his recovery leaves him wide open and I can easily spike him off of the map (I did it before). All of his solid forms can be extremely punishing if used carelessly (I honestly have yet to see it being used effectively. Yes even against the Kirby player I lost against in the video below)

His grabs are honestly pretty good and effective.

-If you could make only one change to SSF2 as it currently is, what would it be and why?

Nerf the downward smashes. I shouldn’t be able to spike someone and kill them when he or she is at 0-15%. I love using ness but I’m looking straight at him as I say this and Naruto’s no better.

And Link’s downward smash shouldn’t be able to kill at 60%.

It’s just a bit too strong in my opinion.

-What is your view on items in competitive play?

Cheap and honestly isn’t a true testament of skill in my opinion.. Remember in a previous flash update that had an item that could regenerate all your health back to 0% regardless of the percentage?

No? Well that was bull.

Plus Ness’s final smash can take TWO LIVES off of an enemy player. Yes, even with respawn invincibility and all.

Basically, I prefer no items in my smash fights. Unless they are projectiles of course.

Do you have or can you download Skype? You don't need a mic or webcam.

I may be able to download it if necessary but I won’t be using a mic or webcam. Sorry.

Why do you want to join the Smash Flash Back Room? What will you contribute? Why are you an exceptional applicant? Be as detailed as possible.

I’m pretty interested in competitive play and learning a bit more about the game’s mechanics and giving a bit more insight on them if I can. I could contribute by, like I said, giving opinions about how the game’s mechanics can be improved and why they should be, or heck, hosting a tournament if I can. I wouldn’t really call myself exceptional but I can share by experiences with Super Smash Flash 2 since, after all, I’ve been following this game for quite a while and I have had some good and bad experiences with it.

Currently Playing: Complacency breeds weakness. My opponents won't stop getting stronger, neither will I.
Please discuss the Ness vs Kirby matchup on Warioware. Please be detailed in your response, consider all options available to both players, and discuss the several facets of gameplay (like edgeguarding, for example).

Pheonix Wright:

Kirby would probably have a bigger advantage.

His up special would be especially helpful in this stage due to the platforms since it would be especially hard to dodge that move (that upward slash kirby sorts does...) since you would get caught on the platforms and take even more damage. Ness could find some use in these platforms as well, he could use the up smash to get the enemy while he is above a platform and launch a combo. But I highly doubt people would fall for this after one or two times.

Ness would win when it comes to edgeguarding. Fist off, his downward smash could easily spikr as kirby is trying to recover. But god help you if you end up against the stage as you are trying to recover. The viewpoint you are on will ultimately cause your death since it keeps you from seeing the thunder and you may not be able to recover as a result.

Its probably smarter to use some alternatives such as using pk flash at the edge of the stage or gliding with ness's down special and kicking them off to get killed.

Kirby's edgeguarding isn't as good due to the fact that he doesn't have as much variety. Besides staying at the edge and using a hammer I can't really think of many options for kirby that are effective.

Here's a big one, racking up damage. Yeah kirby wins here. His upward slash along with the platforms will probably rack up a lot of damage. Ness could probably use pk fire and start from there but I don't see players falling for that often unless they do it in creative ways.

Plus kirby's smash attacks and jumping attacks are really effective for building up damage. Especially his downward smash and his grabs. They would be especially useful in stages like these.

So yeah, overall kirby would probably win.

And a few other insights on some of the other characters that I want to point out.

Donkey Kong is really strong, can pull of some decent damage and honestly would have been one of my mains....

If he wasn't so slow and his recovery didn't suck that is. His recovery is literally one of the worst recoveries in this game. I barely see him move.

The only thing that puts him above Kirby is the fact that his recovery doesn't leave him wide open unlike Kirby's (but you can downward smash him but it would be a bit harder to pull of due to his range)

Black Mage, while not as OP as before, is just...ugh. His dash move is unblockable and undodgeable and his smash attacks can catch you even if you roll from them. His recovery though, leaves him wide open and he can get punished (and I mean REALLY punished) but I feel that he's above Kirby due to his unbelievable range at times, and he has great combo launching potential with the reaper, downward smash (ice), and etc. I also feel that his poison grab is good for building up damage and heck some of his grabs can KO (yes the tornado can KO you if I recall correctly) which is something I feel that he has above Kirby since I haven't really seen anybody KO with Kirby by using a grab (unless they are at a really high percentage).

Fox is pretty good with his laser gun (which is solely there to build up damage. The bastard...) and his normal combos (which are also used to build up damage) but his recovery also leaves him open but at a specific point (when he is charging it up or when it completely stops) unlike Kirby, Donkey Kong, and Black Mage. His agility could possibly help him in stages where there are platforms but in places like Final destination, I don't really imagine him having a high advantage over a ranged character like Zelda or Black Mage.

Lastly, Sora. Oh, dear god, Sora. I like him and I hate him in a way. I have been playing as him through the many updates and retools of this game and I just have a few things to say about him:

First off, his recovery is still garbage. Not as bad as the gliding mechanic in the previous updates but yeah its still pretty bad. His surprising range with his keyblade is what saves him though. I cannot even begin to talk about how I was saved and was able to pull off so many combos with him. A combo I always did (I'm not sure if this still works in the newer updates) was a double downward slash, an air combo (no finisher), then I use figara (fire spell) in the air to send him flying. He also used to have a great mechanic where you could switch spell types with him by pressing down+special button. Too bad they took it off. I actually liked that mechanic but oh well. Maybe it was overpowered? I don't really see how to be honest.

His smash attacks are alright. I don't really have much to say about them other than that they do their job. (downward smash is useful for launching combos)

I was especially glad to hear that his final smash was changed from "pressing special at coordinated times" to just doing it on its own. Because, while I get what they were going for, it was just unnecessary in my opinion and just over complicated things for people who actually use the smash ball.

So yeah, that's just what I thought I should share along with the application.

Thank you for applying to the back room!

Unfortunately, your app has been denied. You will be able to apply again once the next version of SSF2 has been released.
