This is a community that revolves around a game that has been in development for the past howevermany years, so I figured this would be an OK spot to ask this.
What exactly do you think makes a proper, quality fighting game? Maybe not just as a whole, but maybe some deatails or features that really contribute towards how good a fighting game can be? Maybe what kind of playstyles they allow, presense of specific character archetypes maybe? What level of experimental would be acceptable?
Im not just talking about smash here, i mean fighting games as a genre.
I'm interested to see where this forum will take this discussion.

Fighting game AI seems like one of those things that's really difficult to implement, since it can go between "literally reading your inputs to counter you" and "so easy a baby slapping an arcade stick can beat it". But it has to at least be competent.
