Auto Dash or Double Tap Dash?

For competitive play should I be using double tap dash for more precise movement and easier forward tilts or autodash for easier crouchdashing (and dash attacks).

I use basically a knockoff PS3 controller so the joysticks are pretty sensitive and imprecise, so increasing the dash radius doesn't change much for autodashing

Is it character dependent though, becuase I main ichigo and megaman, but I try out different characters all the time?

Its really up to preference

I am a defender of auto-dash with a walk button and will be until my last breath, but that topic is really subjective. Play around with both and decide what you prefer :chibirobo:

Personally I prefer D-tap, although being a :link: main, and seeing how his dash attack was buffed into a combo move, auto dash might have its merits.

Best-Tier: Dash-Button
Top-Tier: Auto-Dash/Walk-Button
Native-Input-Tier: Double-Tap-Dash (literally no to use this on keyboard)

Dash-Button > Auto-Dash for couple, but simply overlooked reasons.

To perfect slide-pivot with Auto-Dash, you have to manual press the Walk-button at the same frame as you turn-around. With Dash-Button, all you do is let go of the button and press the opposition direction anytime you want; much more lenient timing.

And to do perfect fastfall for platform, you just hold the Dash-Button and press down when you need to. It doesn't require any constant press/release action like with Walk-button, because you never have to let go of it. You can be closer to frame-perfect with less inputs.

But I don't think that will do you any good if your keyboard stroke-limition is too weak to handle one-key always needing to be held down. It's perfect on controller however.

Until I read this thread, I used D tap dash and kept accidentally using my side tilt, when I really don't want to use it. The gameplay feels faster when using the auto dash, which is good for me because I prefer juggling and combos.

Just tested something, didn't the dash button used to be in which you had to press it once? I use a Steam controller to play (sometimes keyboard) and holding down the button doesn't work anymore. For reference, I use tap-dash and button dash. I'm not saying it's a glitch, but it's something to point out.

That's a changed made so that you can't Auto-Dash out of Walking without a double-tap. It's to prevent auto-buffing from laggy animations. You can still hold the button, you just have to shift stick direction quickly so it doesn't register the neutral position; otherwise you begin to walk. Shrinking the radius of your control-stick so you reach the dash-values sooner helps to prevent this.
