It's an item from Kid Icarus, the X-Bomb.

Why does it matter that he has a Wii U when Kid Icarus: Uprising was on the 3DS?

Because the description Sakurai posted on Miiverse says what it is.

What Void said. You need a Wii U to get a miiverse account, which is where Sakurai originally posts the screenshots, occasionally with a brief description.

A while back I mentioned that it seemed inevitable for hackers to make a Project M out of Smash 4. After thinking about it for a while, I realize that may not be as likely as we (or I) would like to think.

After all, the main reason Brawl was shunned by the tournament scene was because Sakurai went out of his way to make it anti-competitive, the way he removed all of the advanced techniques from the first two games, the game being slowed down, the air physics becoming more floaty, and the inclusion of tripping which I think was included for the sole purpose of being a giant middle finger to the competitive scene.

Only time will tell if Sakurai has learned from these mistakes but as long as you aren't able to cancel out of hitstun like you could in Brawl, I think people will be happy. (At least I hope they will.) What do you guys think--how will Smash 4 be received by the competitive scene?

It's probably going to be what Brawl should have been but that Air Dodge is killing things for me...

Smash Bros was never meant to be competitive in the first place so its kinda justified.

Melee was developed with the intention of being both a party game and a competitive game. It's about how you wanted to enjoy it.

Sakurai has said like a hundred times that he's aware brawl wasn't as fine tuned as melee. In an interview about smash 4 he did after e3 this year he described it as somewhere between melee and brawl in terms of overall speed.

We always talk about the speed of Melee and Brawl, but where does the speed of SSB64 lie?

SSB64 is godly compared to Melee lol.

64 isn't actually faster, the hitstun is just a lot higher

I think 64 is the slowest, from what I can tell.

It's around the same as melee. It might be a little slower or a little faster, it's been a long time since I've played it. Either way it's not as drastic of a difference as that between melee and brawl.

people hack games regardless of how good they are these days

melee was never hacked at the time because it was next to impossible, not because people liked it enough. These days people are making everything from texture packs to stat mods for Melee. SSB4 will be hacked if possible and there will almost certainly be a project m equivalent for it, given the brawl version's popularity

re the competitive scene on smash 4: most melee players will try it out then keep playing melee. All the brawl players will switch unless the game is unplayable in tournament due to hardware restrictions.
