...

That is a tad liberal interpretation of the song.

It references to the conspiracy theories that claim that the US government is a major player in international drug trade, it adresses class justice, it calls it a War on the poor. Yes they also argue it is senseless to put minor drug offenders in and they are right, but they are also approaching the subject from a human rights view. It seems highly unlikely for System of a Down to assume merely such a laissez-faire capitalist amoral position, since they are known to be rather critical of capitalism.

It is true they don't address the actual quality of prisons, just that they house too many people. Extrapolating that they think they are too good from that is not merited, though.

It does not cost millions to house somebody in prison, usually around $ 25,000/yr is spend on inmates, they do not get quality care or whatsoever. For it to cost millions, a prisoner would have to be incarcerated for at least a total of forty years, though costs have been increasing, so it would have been less expensive in the past and it will be more expensive in the future. But yes, it is a waste of money and it exclusively serves corporate interest.

I've been writing a little about the War on Drugs, too, but I haven't added it yet, school demands some more energy right now, so that's why it takes so long (I've written maybe a few additional pages, but I haven't added them to the post because I want to finish writing about the War on Drugs, first).

I didn't say it costs millions for one, I mean he's saying we're wasting millions.

And they don't get quality care? s***. In prison you get fresh food, clean facilities, free medical care, etc.

If prison was like that, I wonder why everyone who can't afford such things not in there.

Fresh food? It depends. Some American prisons and jails serve spoiled food.

Clean facilities? I think those are even rarer than getting fresh food.

Free medical care, yes, but too expensive and of way too low quality. It is more to benefit unscrupled health suppliers than to benefit the inmates (or rather, to provide the inmates humane, acceptable levels of health care).

Then there are the additional nasties mentioned by |~DVDV~| which are not worth the petty care anyway.

If you try to look at it as objective as humanly possible, the conclusion is that it is more likely the food is spoiled than that the inmates are spoiled.

Actually, fresh food, clean facilities, etc. are MANDATED by law, even in maximum security prisons. Most prisons have the inmates do the cleaning and gardening as rewards for good behavior (which I support, because they're positive outlets that reduce the cost of prisons).
That's not to say that the food tastes good, however.
