As you have probably heard already, the Lib Dems sold out to the Tories. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree ... -editorial

I believe Britain's finance minister arrived at his desk, and read a letter addressed to him from the previous administration.
It read: "We're out of money. Sorry."

Heh, well, they have a high debt, but that's just a Keynesian policy.
If they'd cut their defense budget (not replacing the Trident class nuclear submarines), that would definately cut the expenses. But guess what, it is not going to happen.
Honestly, I can understand that a country sometimes buys new military arsenal, but nuclear submarines are rather redundant unless you are a country like North Korea and subsequently horribly inhumane.

In a way though, the defence industry would definitely not imploded any time soon.

Eh, I think they could find better uses for the money. But I also think the UK will need to think carefully about what they cut and what they increase. Conditions in the Middle East are beginning to deteriorate again, and the UK had quite a few terrorism scares back when things were worse.

They may have better uses, but both Labour and the Conservative Party said they would replace the Trident subs. I don't think it is prudent, but it will happen.

Regarding Britain's finances, it may very well seem that Cameron was more dishonest than merely presenting the kind of programme he endorsed and you would expect of an Etonite. http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2010 ... on-apology
