Is it just me or is Mario's cape giving less distance as a recovery option? It barely moves him forward in the air and fall speed is only slightly slower.

This is related to mario...

Chibi-Robo really counters him through his ability to get his final smash, he has longer range for most of his attacks, and for what I have seen, a decent aerial game. Looks like Mario will have some problems.

I kinda find it funny that v0.9a Mario had great horizontal recovery and okay vertical recovery, but v0.9b Mario is the complete opposite.

It took a while to transition from 0.9a Mario to his 0.9b version, but once I got the hang of him, I found him super fun and rewarding! I made some notes in case people actually care about my opinion.

Pros!!
-NEW SPRITES!!
-Faster running speed(?)
-Mario still has his B-reversal cape mobility from 0.9a. Dat movement
-Fireballs are bigger and feel like they have more hitstun
-Tornado has KO power!? Better hitstun too
-Uair is a good combo move as well as a good KO move. Same with Utilt
-Dsmash retains its ridiculous knockback from 0.9a and it's FASTER
-Fsmash doesn't have that weird timing for the sweetspot anymore and is much stronger
-Jump Punch and Tornado are better recovery tools
-Fair is a reliable KO move all around
-Nair is nerfed but still good
-Down throw has chaingrab potential (haven't tried it on a live opponent)
-Doesn't have Brawl's Dtilt

Gripes...
-Attacks seem to have more frames and come out slower. This will make it harder to perform SHFF'd aerials
-No more shorthop double fireball
-It's a bit harder to trap opponents in Dair
-Usmash doesn't hit opponents behind Mario like in the official Smash games
-FD still hates Jump Punch

That's all I can think of at the moment. Also, thank you devs for keeping the "Melee Mario" palette swap. It's my favorite one! What do you guys think?

Mario is completely different yeah, both design and gameplay-wise.
I like this Mario much more, though I actually think the old Mario was a better character.
He's faster, has cooler combos, but 0.9a Mario was more efficient. Dat nair was really great, and Fireballs were better
But anyway Mario is much more fun to use right now at least to me.

0.9a Mario just had his dash attack and uair juggles that he could spam all day.
I also like Mario's new nair and Fireballs more, they have more range to back em' up (though nair has lees kill power).

His F-Air also got a reasonable buff, being quicker and more powerful. Its easy to D-Throw or D-Tilt to an F-Air kill at higher percents

I wouldn't say more powerful, it's pretty weak. I used to be able to combo dthrow > fair and it would KO mid-weights at like 80-90%, now it doesn't KO till over the 100's and it doesn't meteor smash as easily.

Too bad it's range was nerfed too. :(

Further testing on Mario:
He's faster than his Brawl counterpart.
Edgeguarding game is somewhere between Melee and Brawl.
More KO power.
Less range than in Melee.
Can almost effortlessly approach if you SHFF Fire Balls.
Cape prevents Mario from being zoned in by projectiles himself.
Buffed recovery, better than Melee.
Combo game is win.
Rather small for a mid-weight (harder to hit).
Easy top tier material.

Mario's only weaknesses are his range, and predictable recovery.

Imo, Mario is perfect. Don't change him please, I love him the way he his.

Keep up the great work!

From what I've noticed, Mario's attacks feel MUCH smoother, but his recovery worsened.

Nah, probably just because of the new physics you need to get used to.

His ledge sweetspot is bigger from what I can tell, so he doesn't die if recovers just below the ledge and hits a stage lip.

His cape is hardly as useful as before though.

Word ..his cape is kinda more useful than it's ever been ..Im guessing the traction or momentum murdering physics with stage collisions will be fixed, and when that happens mario will have like one of the best recoveries again.
