I dont like having to use the pointer for things, it makes it harder to throw pikmin accurately. However it does allow for quick turning, to throw in multiple directions or something.

That, or just sit in front of the TV... The only time mine decides to spaz out with the pointer is when I move over and am not directly in front of the TV.
