Worst SSF2 Beta Nerfs Ever!

Ok first of all, most of us have no idea what you are talking about, since practically nobody knew about that before Beta, and :blackmage: was still overpowered even without that feature, whatever it is.

Thirdly, we're getting kind of tired of you bantering about it every single chance you get.

Not trying to be condescending (I apparently don't know how to avoid that in this kind of circumstance), but could you at least elaborate, if not quit bringing it up?

Meteo, at least in v0.9b, was able to be slightly angled from a strict 45 degree angle to about either 20 to 65 degrees, which allowed BM to mix-up his most reliable Projectile in both Neutral and Edgeguard situations

Now, he is limited to one Angle which severely nerfed Meteo freedom which basically further ruined his already horrendous Neutral without getting a trade-off

Unlike Side-B which allows a Mid Range disjointed Command Grab that was made safer by reducing it's endlag, halting momentum, and not leaving BM helpless in mid-air

Also, wtf do you mean by "No one knew about Angled Meteo"? That was arguably his best tool in Neutral in 9b

Ummm...
One, BM wasn't OP in 0.9b.
Two, I absolutely agree with Jan. Angled Meteo gave BM much greater stage control, making his main projectile much much much less predictable.
And three, who is this "we" that is tired?

Ummm...
One, BM wasn't OP in 0.9b.
Two, I absolutely agree with Jan. Angled Meteo gave BM much greater stage control, making his main projectile much much much less predictable.

I thought :blackmage: was OP, at least.
I still don't know what he's talking about when he says Meteo. Is that a stage? Are you referring to Meteor, as in his Down-B?
It feels like at least a third of all of Jan's posts mentions how "Angled Meteo" was nerfed after Beta.

I'm not here to argue though, I'd just like some peace and clarity.

But BM discussion clarified in the discord to call his Down-B "Meteo" as "Meteor" causes confusion due to "Meteor" being a Smash term

And Meteo is another official name for Meteor anyway, it's just not as common

As someone who has played a lot of BM since 0.7, I can confirm that the loss of meteor angling has brought down-b from arguably BM's best special in 0.9b, to his worst one in Beta. It's useful enough as is for mixing up projectiles a bit, but it's rarely the best option anymore unless you've been knocked upward and want to clear a landing.

Meanwhile, the new side B is arguably better than the old one, even though it opens a hole in BM's defenses. The previous Haste plus trying to teleport horizontally plus a lag spike added up to BM killing himself - now it just cancels your momentum, which is great. Haste -> jump -> up spec recovers a little further than not hasting first. The old haste range is mostly covered by ftilt and other options, while the new haste gives BM a bit of fast reach that he badly needed.

BM haste was less of a nerf and more of a rework lmao get urself checked

Meteor was hit pretty hard but its still useful in the neutral, its just not the be all, end all neutral tool it was for BM in 9.b

its still better than stop, due to the sdi for that move being increased for god knows what reason

BM's significant nerfs are to his normals, all of his aerials are a lot weaker than before, landing lag was added super hard to all landing aerials making s*** like landing dair and nair unsafe on hit, his usmash is way slower in both startup and endlag and lost it's second hit, dthrow and uthrow have longer FAFs meaning that BM's main combo throws dont work as well as they used to

basically they just made a lot of his more effective, neutral game tools a little weaker, but his punish game is just so much worse now, its the main reason why BM is considered a low tier, his punish game is probs bottom 5 in the game due to like half of his kit being unsafe on hit until like 40, his disadvantage is even worse now thanks to those moves, and yeah i really just dont like how he is now.

Not to mention that all of his previous kill power is gone, all he has is fsmash now. Dash attack is plan s*** now even when it wasnt that good to begin with in 9b, same with bair and usmash

all im saying is that the devs tried to keep his general tools the same while also making sure to suck the life out of one of the more creative 9b characters

pls buff when.

(Also Metroid's Aether can be called Planet Aether)

As for nerfs, I find Megaman's Dair and jab to be a lot less useful than they were. Some of his throws also became more boring by just being throwing people around. (Pretty sure they're weaker too.)

Many people just say meteor or spike when they mean a meteor smash. I do too, its faster and still gets the meaning across. Thing is that BM Down B had/has a tech that coincidentally was referred to as Meteor Cancel(ling) (something about landing with a midair Down B I think), which already is a thing :chibirobo: Plus, Meteo as in the Star Fox stage is much less likely to come up in a talk about Black Mage, and if you hear "Meteo" used in conjunction with Black Mage I doubt that your first thought is about said stage. That and Meteo too is a name sometimes used for the attack in the FF series.


tl;dr~ Meteo because confusing it with Meteor Smashes if we called it Meteor is a thing




Back ontopic, I already talked about Chibi USmash hitboxes being nerfed to hell and beyond, but I realized that people didnt catch the full meaning of this until I actually showed them the change. As such, I would like to present to you the beauty that are the hitboxes of Chibis Up Smash. plz dont ban me I mean no harm

First off is 0.9b USmash:

Thats pretty damn huge, isnt it? One might even say it is too big, and I would agree with you here. As such Beta made the attack smaller, but I think the devs may have gone a little overboard here:

Even though the camera is slightly more zoomed out on the second gif, I think it is pretty easy to see just how hard Up Smash was hit, and why I keep saying that it was neutered all the time. For the sake of comparism, I decided to add the hiboxes of Forward Air as well. Going to leave this uncommented, but yeah:
