Why would you want to break his balloons when you could just attack Villager himself?

To gimp him? If you attack him and you're unsuccessful in killing him he would get an additional recovery attack.

And who knows, maybe his up special works so that the balloons keep him afloat even if he takes damage.

That would depend on how much distance it covers. If its one of those moves that grants large distances like Pit's Wings of Icarus, then just hit him again. And much like Pit's, there's a chance they wont allow him to regain his recovery if hit out of it.

I was about to say that or you could just Meteor Smash.

Meteor smashing isn't always the safest option.
Also I guess we can't really critique it until we see exactly how it functions.

Regardless, it does appear to be easy to gimp, especially given how slow it was shown to look. But who knows, they might change its attributes. Or maybe they were just showing it move slow, but is capable of moving faster. I just suggested it might be easier to attack Villager instead of his balloons because his hitbox is definitely larger, and therefore easier to hit. That would be like trying to aim for Snake's Cypher i guess.

No, it's definitely a larger target than he is, if only slightly. Maybe they're the same, not sure. I guess it looks like both gimping and attacking directly will be options.

Fair enough, well lets hope that the balloons arent easy to break, otherwise his recovery will be seriously hampered by it. Though im also hoping they can act as potential shields for him.

Villager's move set seems strange. The recovery especially.
For his recovery, he gets 2 balloons, mimicking Balloon Fight i'm sure, but why? The only connection I can think of between those 2 games is that in the GC version you get a playable NES with Balloon Fight, but that still doesn't make much sense to me.
Same goes for the bowling ball move and the tripping move. I guess those are just furniture items, which makes a little more sense. I'm sure it was tough to come up with a move set for him.
He does have his net, shovel, and axe, so that's pretty cool. And I love his ability to pocket projectiles, it seems kind of OP though.
Regardless i've wanted an animal crossing villager for a long time, and I can't wait to play as him. I definitely would like to main him!

Yes. However, today's picture was a reference to the Mega Man games. Also, it definitely will come in handy against some basic projectile moves (Mario/Luigi's Fireballs, Link's Arrow, Fox's Blaster, Samus's Power Missile, etc.)
