We all know this is MG's reigning masterpiece, about to eclipse every single one of SSF2's accomplishments with its inventive puzzle platformer gameplay and tiles that look straight out of a Game Maker student game from 2005. But what happens when the hype reaches such a fever-like intensity that everyone will have forgotten about SSF2? Will we still see SSF2 activity or will everyone be so caught up with Fury-mania that this ten-year wait will appear to have been for naught?

I remember visiting the original MG website back in 2008, back when character animations were crowdsourced on a public database. I was absolutely blown away that someone was finally doing the unspeakable and putting Sasuke from Naruto in Smash Brothers. Well, it's almost 2018, Sasuke still isn't in SSF2, and it seems Cleod meanwhile has made a game so incredible, so innovative, that it's like his original project never even existed.

It feels like time wasted to know how many game-changingly epic ideas have been floating around in Cleod's brain and yet he decided to expend a decade's worth of creative energy on something that might as well never get finished. Since the announcement of SSF2 in 2007 we've not only seen the releases of two new major Smash Bros. releases (three, if you count the 3DS version as a separate title), we've also seen the birth and death of Project M as well as the competitive Melee community getting so advanced that people are giving themselves arthritis and early-onset dementia from trying to break their controllers just enough to get a single-frame advantage. It's safe to say that Super Smash Brothers is a dead and done deal. No one cares anymore; no one's playing, no one's watching. No one in the first world wants to play a Flash clone of Smash anymore.

But with Yeah Jam Fury we've effectively ushered in a brand new era of independent gaming that is so unlike anything anyone has ever before seen. As it catches on I'm sure we'll see a strong and vibrant community form around speedrunning the game in addition to plenty of fanart of the characters Yeah, Jam and Fury hugging and kissing. I'm sure not even Cleod is prepared to harvest the fruits of his labor. So I ask you, "Fury"-heads: how are you preparing for the new golden age? And how do you plan on making the switch over from "Flash 2 fever" as the SSF2 project fades into obscurity once and for all?

I get the sarcastic tone of this thread loud and clear but I don't get why you posted it. Although the visuals aren't as advanced as some may hope, YJF is an excellent platformer that is extremely challenging and is an entirely different genre than SSF2. We've also made it clear that proceeds from YJF go to helping keep MG afloat.

We can't afford to keep working on a full game studio-sized game for free forever with no side projects gaining anywhere near remote success, it would leave us all homeless with MG's lights off (mind you, if MG goes down so does MGN and the browser version of all of our games). You should be rooting for this and all of our other projects to succeed because without them that Smash fangame you're so fond of is actually gonna fade into obscurity when we can't afford computers or internet.
