The internet (and indeed, internet nerds) weren't as much of a thing back then.
Content removing could happen without most people knowing.
Not anymore.
Internet nerds get mad enough when Nintendo say they can't broadcast their games online. They got mad enough when Tharja's a** was censored. Imagine if a character was removed from Smash Bros.

not to mention the roster is actually put online on a website that people check for updates on every single day. i doubt they want to have to handle two different versions of that update schedule.

Albert Wesker confirmed for Smash 4. Considering that there is no weapon in the mega man series that resembles a flaming cross, I'm gonna guess that it's a new item.

Why does it matter that he has a Wii U when Kid Icarus: Uprising was on the 3DS? Anyway, yeah, I didn't recognize it because I don't remember seeing an explosion shaped like that in the game. I also haven't played in forever.
