About time someone revived this thread. I haven't done the Dolphin Slash ledge grab thing as Marth. Does it actually work? I'm going to need some evidence before I try it.

One thing that always confused me is how the sweetspot of Marth's fair sends people UP while he swings DOWN. How does that work?

I defenitely agree on that because I've used F-Air as Marth and hit the opponent with F-Air's sweet spot. It's kind of weird.

It's not weird. Is the exact moment when marth sends upwards, and just the tipper. I've use for extend combos, if you know very well this move. I'ts maths.

Anyway.... can you post a picture of the "Marth grabbing ledges with Dolphin Slash in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate" thing?

But according to vector geometry, if you apply the entire force in straight downwards direction, it should not go in the opposite direction unless there are other forces at work. Dtilt is a very useful poking/spacing tool.

Geometry is a part of math isn't it? But yeah. You have a point here Sonario. D-Airs are supposed to send fighters downward, just like Kirby's d-air and Black Mage's d-air. Why a D-Air would go UPWARD instead of DOWN, isn't explainable. I think down tilt also has far knockback range when the opponent is at high damage, but I'm not sure actually.

D-airs doesn't always have to be a meteor smash/spike/whatever.

Just the tipper can spike.

It's not the dair, it's the F-air which is a forward and downward swinging attack which (with a tipper) inexplicably sends things in neither of those directions and straight upwards instead.

Yep That's as if I explained why Link's dair sends upwards and not downwards. You can't apply the real life logic in smash.

For the people that complain about Marth's UpB bumping under the arena's ledges and getting themselves killed: Marth's UpB is angleable just like Mario's, by either holding forward, only the special inputs, or holding the opposite direction (without turning around) See that perfectly vertical UpB? Yeah, that's by holding the opposite direction he's facing just careful not to turn around when you try it

But Marth's up b is suuuper jank. It's so bad.
Buuut not because it's bad for recovery, but because it's super unreliable. Melee's up b was sooo much stronger and could actually be used in techchases to kill or send offstage for follow ups, but SSF2 Marth's tipper is too steep, even in sweetspot. His sourspot is also much bigger and it's way harder to hit sweetspot imo. Also, the motion blur for dolphin slash makes a cringe a little bit. All the motion blur in Melee has spoiled me because it looks so beautiful. Counter is so bad. In Melee, you can counter recoveries offstage and actually hit and survive, or even in Ultimate stand on the stage and counter. SSF2 you fall like a rock and miss 90% of the time, even on the ground. Makes me very sad. also, stop talking about Marth's fair. I mean the same argument can be applied to Bowser's fair. It's actually a really good combo too and leads into kill confirms anyways. It's a f*** game no one cares. I don't want to deal with vector anyway. Geometry sucked. Precalc sucked. geo/trig *sucks*. Besides that, Marth is reallly fun and more rewarding than 9b Marth who spammed fair and f smash (speaking as a somewhat Marth main btw. Mainly why I stopped playing till beta came out) and I like every other aspect.
