pitfall can be meteor cancelled if it hits you in the air.
I would accept ray gun tbh since I assume the kirby rapid fire thing is a bug that hasn't been fixed for may demos...

Exactly.

As for the ray gun, the Kirby thing is a similar bug to Mega Man with the Star Rod, who can do 80% no sweat due to the projectiles being mismapped to standard rather than smash - I didn't put it under "banned" for that reason because that's a bug that can easily be classified as "will obviously be patched in the near future".

The fact that it can be meteor cancelled does not nullify it as a powerful edgeguard tool.

Yes, and powerful does not mean broken.

Things like that are why I'm hosting that tournament; to see whether or not it's broken.

I think the question is not even whether items are "broken", but whether they give unfair advantages to certain characters. Maybe Fox is better due to having the best reflector in the game: maybe fast characters are aided too much by being able to pick items quickly: maybe poor edgeguarders can just use items to edgeguard and nullify that weakness: maybe characters with low kill power can use it to buff that area of their game. The main concern I have with items is not that they would be broken, but that people who main characters that would be hurt by items will feel slighted.

That's what I'm running the tournament for - to see if there are any abnormalities.

Yes, it's a small sample size, so it would only produce very rough results.

But it's something to start from, at least.

the fan is a good whay to dish out small bits of damage but can be overpowerd on smaller stages if used correctly ;)

Really? I thought it's trapping abilities were near-nonexistent now.
