your lineart is actually really good. needs a bit of cleaning up but it's a fantastic base to work from. work a LOT harder on your colouring though, it looks like you're using some sort of weird texture and you shouldn't do that for stages. start by filling in all the areas with their base colour with no shading, and then go back and make darker lighter areas. texturing should happen last pretty much.

because all he did was change the color of the head. I guess he doesn't see anything odd about it so that's fine I guess.
the sword though, it looks like he's trying to go for a foreshortening kind of look to it but it isn't really coming out that well.

I don't tend to critique well so feel free to ignore me, but I think reducing your color count will drastically improve your sprites.
There's a high amount of banding in your work, and some like banding and that's cool, but I think it's taking away your quality.

Reducing your color count will help you make sprites faster since you don't have to worry about 5+ colors per shade, while also helping you communicate shapes better.

Your outlines are nice though.
