I would argue that adding something dumb to a moveset detracts from the character.

Whether you think the ice beam thing is dumb is up to you, but the idea that adding something can never be a bad thing is pretty silly imo.

I wasn't implying that in the slightest. Of course adding something can be a bad thing, just think what if characters suddenly started branishing and shooting with firearms? That would be a TERRIBLE idea; it didn't work in Shadow the Hedgehog and it wouldn't work in Smash. I know that's an extreme example but you're the one putting words in my mouth here.

Samus' Ice Beam fits her character (mainly because she uses it in the canon games) and the different attack mechanics allow for different playstyles--it's really no different from Zelda and Sheik, you can use one, use the other, or alternate between both. That's why it works.

I agree that it's an unneeded addition that detracts from her character. If you already have an established play style that everything in the move set is a part of, adding anything else is going to make the play style less well constructed.

I feel like they couldn't decide if they wanted to keep the multi-hit fire attacks, or change them out for singular hitting attacks. So they just put beam-swap just so she has both balance adjustments. But I believe in a future update, the best adjustments of both beam-styles will be made into her finally move-set. The swap itself in unneeded.

I also kind of hope, Zelda and Sheik transform through some other way (Like pressing down taunt during another taunt) beside taking up a potential down special for both.
