The computer I mostly use and post on this forum is f*** retarded. It has slow speed until Verizon FiOs (love it) sort of boosted it a little. When I go onto Youtube, I can't even watch a single video or any tv show episode properly because the speed makes all the videos really choppy, especially when I want to put on full screen. When I play flash games, same thing happens, and I barely do anything during a game of like, I dunno, SSF for example (although I haven't played it in maybe almost a year or so). My dad says he wants to upgrade it, which for me, is impossible, because one, my computer system is around the f*** 1990s, and my dad used a bootlegged Windows XP program, to maybe make it better. I have bad amounts of RAM, which is obviously the reason my computer is slow, and I have poor limits of hard drive space, which is only 42 GB. Any executable programs I try to run takes about a minute or 2 to actually appear on my screen, and it takes about 15 minutes or so to actually get my computer all warmed up. I think the only game I can actually play is Gunz, or MapleStory, since they run at a decent amount. Anyway, me and my dad went to a computer store in hopes of trying to have more hard drive space, which was denied, because my system isn't compatible with anything at all. The store clerk says he'll sell us a new OS with new features (at a bargained price), but my dad says no, because he's f*** cheap as hell, and he still believes we can still upgrade a non-compatible computer by looking inside it and upgrading stuff.

Is it possible to ever upgrade my computer at all? Please give me any solutions, it will be helpful.

well, i have the same problem. Most hardware isn't very backwards compatible. The computer I use is using parts from 2004 and there's absolutely no way I could bring it up even more then two years' worth. you're better off finding some sort of used computer that was made in this century that's cheap enough. No promises here but you might be able to find something around the range of $150-200, and considering the latest graphics cards and s*** cost upwards of that, you'd be hard pressed to simply build your own.

Agreed. It's simply impossible to somehow make any antique computer any better (I don't know about your situation, truthfully, I got this computer around 2000, the 1990s thing was all exaggerated.) Also, trying to find and buy a used computer with hardware in this century is impossible for me, in my case, because I barely have any money, even if it were my birthday, my dad would still say we could still upgrade this piece of s***. Plus, tell me how my dad buys a new 1080p HD monitor for my computer and Xbox 360 to help speed up my computer. Lol.

By the sounds of it, your computer is old. Times have changed, and todays RAM or other things you would normally consider upgrading with wouldn't fit in your motherboard. You'd have to go out of your way to find the kind of RAM you need, and that could be a pain. To upgrade, so many things would have to be bought that it would probably be cheaper to buy a new computer rather than upgrade. Laptops today are cheaper than you think - I'm getting a decent one for $500 AU soon.

tl;dr, you COULD upgrade, but it would be a pain and it's easier to get a new one.

If you want anything for gaming, consider at least sinking 500 USD for something that is upgradeable. The motherboards from the early 2000s are no longer compatible since we're at a point where we don't use older components any more. Not to mention that the buses on the new motherboard would be faster and have support for multiple CPUs, which is cheaper and more efficient than getting one ginormously fast CPU.

tl;dr You need to upgrade your mother board which means buying a new computer any way.

New video card might help a lot, but chances are replacing your whole comp is what you need.

What is your budget then? You could scavenge the harddrive from the laptop so that could cut costs a little. Question, you can't sell your laptop?

I can't help any further if I don't have numbers to work with. To be honest, you could probably look for a netbook, but it wouldn't be able to play any games. There may be some but they are usually niche and could set you back more than what I offered.

Well...thanks for trying to help, anyways. I guess buying a new computer sooner or later is the best way to go. In terms of giving you numbers, I guess I can only say around $100-200 and there may be a small chance my dad may say "yeah, sure".
