I'm not sure if I agree or not. I could argue either being better I think.

Pika is overrated because Axe performs at the top level with him and there's no real top level Samus, even though there are lots of people who do well with her (compared to Pikachu, where Axe is the only successful player). Pikachu also has trouble with lots of matchups where Samus is at a slight disadvantage but does ok against pretty much everyone. If there had ever been any other players that could accomplish anything with Pika I might think differently, but Axe is literally the only PIkachu to ever do anything noteworthy so it seems more like he's an exceptional player. EDIT: here is a yoshi video

I think Hugs is the only real top level Samus player that has accomplished stuff or at least has made his name pretty big. I think he's a very good player

If Smash 4 gets a good enough competitive scene going, no, if not, yes.

It was the secondmost viewed event (almost first, but Marvel got a great finals), and had the third most entrants. It would be silly for them to not bring back Melee. Smash 4 won't show up unless it has a good scene first. The community picked Melee over Brawl this year, and they're not dumb enough to assume that everyone (or really anyone) will switch to 4. You're missing out on a lot of Melee history. Most notably, Wes was one of the top players in the world during his heyday. In addition, there have been many other Samus mains throughout the history of the game who have been far more successful than any Pikachu bar Axe, which is the point I was making.

I know about Wes, but I got into the smash scene during the time when Hugs was still very active. Wes, to me, is comparable to a founding father figure because he was very good during his time, but nobody really talks about him anymore because he isn't relevant... Kind of like Isai when he played Melee. I brought up Hugs because he's more relevant, and he still plays the game quite a bit. That, and you said that there are "no real top level Samus" players, so I just wanted to bring up Hugs. lots of people know that Hugs is one of the best Samus players ever, and still is. I'm not missing any history. I just didn't bother mentioning it because I didn't see the need to. Axe and Wes aren't from the same era of smash, imo. it's no wonder why Mango is always practiced. He's always playing against Hugs on his MIOM streams. and Hugo seems to go pretty even some of the time with Mango.

You're missing my point.
My point is that there are currently no top level Samus players while there is a top level Pikachu player, so people are inclined to think the Pikachu is a better character when in reality Samus has better performance overall and always has. It's because of Samus' absence from the top places in tournaments that people think she's worse than she is, when in reality she simply lacks a good representative right now.
Hugs is not currently a top level player, and sometimes doing ok against a top level player in friendlies doesn't change that. You become a top level player by doing well in tournaments, and Hugs hasn't been a tournament threat for a while. Several Samus players including him have been very successful in the past, yes, but that's my point.

Don't get me wrong. I understand your points and agree with you completely. I was just complementing Hugs because I like his play-style lol. and to my knowledge, he's currently the best Samus player compared to the rest of the Samus players, at the moment.
it didn't really have anything to do with your post, sorry ;D

Last time I heared, Samus loses pretty solidly against Sheik, Peach (according to ARmada here), and Falco. Pikachu also loses quite a bit, but not much more than Samus.
Pikachu is successful in Melee because of its strong edge game, which (next to) no one can ever match (gimps + recovery combined). It is especially useful against the 2 space animals and Falcon, and he can still body most other Top tiers at the edge by playing good enough. Pikachu also has good combos which can end up in his edgeguarding/gimps, and decent damage output overall. His mobility and little body helps him adapting without being to predictable. Axe does play an "aggressive style" according to himself, but shows quite a bit of defensive movement when needed.
I won't try to argue weither Samus is better or not (even if my personal stand is Pikachu is slightly better). I just say Pikachu is good enough to be a match to Samus, and perform in tournament, whereas Samus will have not only to find a Top player, but also learn to change her multiple playstyles to perform better. Samus is not bad, especially in the past. Pikachu is not worse than her, especially in the present day.
If Samus has a strong point she can capitalize on (I ask for someone explaining to me her goods traits from Melee in details), then she might end up doing pretty good again. I think most people don't care about her because the Top tiers are so much more flexible...

ROY IS BACK IN PROJECT M!!! Yeah, the devs finally perfected the Clone Engine and I am beyond excited because this opens up so many new possibilities for characters! With this, I wonder if the team will stop once all of Brawl's/Melee's rosters are done or if we'll see a few more characters in addition to these (such as Toad, Tails, Mega Man, Toon Zelda/Tetra, Bowser Jr., Villager, etc.) I would really love for Project M to be an ongoing effort to pull in a few characters who never got the chance before. What do you guys think?
