There never has been much custom Scott sprites
so I made a base
Image

Take heed for this thing took me a year (I spent 75% of the months procrastinating, I just finished this, this week)

I'll probably try Stephen next

Gideon is 100% custom
Scott is maybe 75% (His lower part was taken from his original chibi sprite, but tampered with, so is his right arm)

Never use someone's work (In terms of sprites/pixel art) as a reference to sprite your own work, regardless of how long it took you or how difficult it takes to workaround and have a custom sprite. The fact it took you 4-12 months to get something like those done shows how inexperienced you must be... That or it must be you're pretty lazy on the job.

Hell, i don't even feel as if the Gideon sprite is "100% custom". I took into account of every detail and color in your palette and they're nearly identical to one another.

Image

I even spotted the same solid black color (0,0,0) inside the glasses. All i see in the real differences are the left hand and the slanted legs, which both feel awkward in comparison to the original. The color palettes are the exact same but you added 4 colors in your palette that feel unnecessary and don't even blend in with the sprite itself.

And now 4 months later, you come back trying to make a Ramona sprite using the original sprite as reference to your own work. I recommend using images instead of pixel art for references.

If this sprite is gonna take you a year (or even a month) as you claimed to how long it took you on both the Scott and Gideon sprite, i recommend putting this on hold and go find some actual pixel art tutorials so you can learn and sprite at a much faster progress. Telling us it took you this long to create something so small and identical is inexcusable at the moment.

The most I use of the game sprites are mostly for visual comparison (Colors, Size), but I change them if people find something wrong with them (Ex:Scott's Pants)

But Gideon IS 100% custom, you can trace it back to my days off being a freelancer at the Formerly Known Official Expansion Forums (http://ssf2expansions.motionforum.net/t ... e-workshop here's the link of that thread along with page) , heck here's my bit by bit work on him, with some help with Suli and a few forum members

Seeing how I started at the end of May 31 and ended at June 4, how's that for inexperienced. You can also see my progress on Scott here (Starting on June 30).

HIATUS (Explanation at the bottom, that last update was on July 07, check the link I added on Gideon for proof, it's a few pages after I finished Gideon)
Follow this link for the page where I updated Scott again http://ssf2expansions.motionforum.net/t ... rite-topic
Image (The above sprite happened on December 30, the only week where I had a large amount of free time that I decided to continue Scott again)

I restarted at December 30 and ended at January 01, again how's that for inexperienced.

Now I am just lazy (Back then spriting was new to me, so I sprited all the time, but I was crappy). Now I just sprite when I'm really bored or the Internet is down, also the fact that we moved and the PC being left in our old apartment (Siblings used it) pretty much takes the half a year on which I couldn't update on Scott (The only thing really missing was his legs).

EDIT:
Here's my old sprite topic, all of which where filled with my old mediocre sprite edits, you can see my pitiful excuse for a 100% custom Scott Pilgrim there too.
viewtopic.php?t=32848
I never did got to do that request (Mainly because if you read my above statements, we moved)

But in his defense, he mentioned most time was spend postponing spriting (@Michael)

I agree that this is much more like a resize as opposed to an actual 100% custom sprite. Like Mike said; when you use other sprites as reference, you tend to just copy-paste the linework and shading. This is also a huge problem with how most spriters use sprite tutorials.

That's quite funny since some of the guys at the Old EF asked why I didn't just do that. The problem was that it wasn't quite as rewarding when finished, since most of what I'll probably do is shrink it and add some minor edits.

Inexperience is not defined as how long it takes you to do something. If it takes me a day to make a good base sprite, so be it. If it takes me a couple hours, cool, time saved. How long it takes doesn't change how experienced I am.

Experience does have an effect on the time it takes, but it's neither the only factor or the main one.

What level of muscle reference do you want? Normal, Liftin' or Anime?

Even putting the rest of the comments aside, I'll be the one to remark, as a die-hard-own-all-six-books-and-the-two-color-prijts-that-exist-at-this-time-beat-the-game-own-the-movie-paid-like-20-bucks-for-the-one-day-only-free-comic-on-ebay-have-made-sprite-sheets-of-my-own-and-am-adapting-the-comics-to-audiobook Scott Pilgrim fanboy I am, the style doesn't really suit the sprites very well. The Paul Robertson sprites captured the comic look to a T. These... Not so much. I just don't see the point in making sprites less fitting than the originals. Unless this is just practice or something

Normal, I think? Something like Batman's?

That's not exactly the style I'm aiming for, but I'll try to whip something up in a proper computer.

The "style you're going for" doesn't suit the characters to begin with
