This game has been around for a very long time. I remember, before Smash 4 was announced, dreading the possibility because I thought it would throw a wrench in the works if there eventually was one.

And, in a way, I was right. We (relatively) immediately got characters, stages, and other elements inspired by 4. The game plan had been set in stone before, but no longer.

Now that there's a possible fifth installment/revamp, there's a very real possibility that it will throw SSF2 for yet another loop. What do you think that loop would be, in that case?

If it is a whole new game (as opposed to an upgraded port of the Wii U version), and it comes out before SSF2's full version (almost certain especially if it makes the 2018 release window), I figure we'll see the same sort of things that happened when 4 came out, in terms of new content and character changes.

Also, Sans is a legitimate character choice now, so jot that one down.

I started playing SSF2 to hype for Sm4sh. So did Etika. I'm pretty sure SSF2 will just get a bigger audience from Smash 5 hype.

I'll leave this and I'll slowly retire...

Now, aside from the OP, I'm going to give my own opinion now:

please don't be the sequel more and more evidence is popping up to be, sending me and the entire fandom back into the hellish speculation phase for months on end before making me have nothing to look forward to but disappointment as everyone I play as gets cut, anything but that

Pretty much this. And SSF2 has significantly changed since those days, so it's somewhat fitting.
