How do you know that you didn't get the virus from a different source?
It's possible that you've had a virus on your computer, lurking, for quite a while, and coincidentially, when you download that program and run it, the added memory of that program + the memory taken up by the virus running slows your computer epicly, and then you realize you have a virus when in fact it's been there forever.
