Okay, seriously. It's been eating at me for a while. I know this might not be the best place to ask, but...what's the acceptable standard for projects made with RPG Maker? I've seen games released using nothing but the RTP getting fairly good reviews, but even loading my various projects up with custom resources and fancy scripts, I STILL feel like they can't be anything more than sub-par, simply because I'm using an engine designed for easy game creation. Am I off? Are RPG Maker projects frowned upon in general, or is there a threshold for where they become acceptable? I guess my point is that I feel like anything I make, no matter how hard I try, isn't worthy of sharing. I'm embarassed to share anything I make because I feel like I'll be mocked or called a poser or something for using something like RPG Maker. I just want to know what the whole opinion on this is.

I don't know if this is the proper place for this. I didn't see an area for non-Flash game design. And if this is an inappropriate topic or has already been discussed in a still-active topic, I sincerely apologize. It's 6 in the morning here and I'm not running at 100%. Again, sorry if I made a mistake.

I say go ahead with it and have a lot of fun making a game. If you can do it in RPG Maker, maybe you can begin to learn more complex things and gradually get better and better. But everything starts somewhere. There'll always be the people who label you as poser, I guess, but you shouldn't feel bad for making a game in RPG Maker.

One of the main things though is to make sure you finish a game. Make it airtight in every aspect you can think of. Many people stop once they get something working as opposed to once they get it perfect.

I don't know, Game Maker is seriously looked down upon, even when coding is used.

Not always, some games have been sold that have been made in Game Maker. It's those few people that really make good games in GM.

Now I feel bad using that...
Anyway, I use GM cause EVERY single time I try to learn code, it just slips
out of my head. I'm slowly learning though.

I'm actually learning to code right now. In fact, I just made myself a test: "How long would it take for me to code a simple platformer, with 'coins', from scratch?"
My record: 6 minutes and 04 seconds.

Well duh. Game Maker makes it easy and convenient to make simple games, and slightly challenging to make deeper games. However, for large scale games a simple program that dumbs down the hard work will not cut it.

Yeah, and RPG Maker is EASIER than Game Maker... so that's why it's looked down upon.

I'm currently learning Python right now anyways, so no more GML.

I guess it's good to know some GML though.
