I've given up on these forums. There are so many topics/subtopics that the entire layout is much too confusing. Then we have the problem that users are not allowed to post threads, which makes a thread more than 400 pages long. How on earth can we know what they're talking about?

Here is a layout I propose:
Bug Section
SSF2 Discussion
Free Forum

The rules should be posted in a sticky on the top of each section.

I don't exactly plan on reading 400 pages. And I'm not an idiot, thanks for proclaiming your immaturity to the world.

You have like, 7 posts.
Not much to give up.

No one knows what devs talk about.
And no one can read a lot of new people's posts due to grammar.

So it has 400 pages, it's not a big deal. Really though, the last like, 10-20 pages are relevant and devs probably read the bugs as they come up.
That is, if they didn't find them themselves.
Seeing as how most bugs are for the current version, you shouldn't need to read in to things a hundred pages back.

SSF2 Discussion is spread over the entire section.
The last thing this place needs is more forums.
Topics just pile up with new things and you go along with them.
If you don't feel like reading miles back, ask if something has gotten brought up previously.

And a free forum?
Everything SSF2 related fits into each topic fine.
Sure, it seems like a lot, but staying current with the newest pages is good enough.

Yoh, shut up. You're a dumbass, too.
His problem is that the topics are 200-900 pages.
That means, it's not easy for him to check previous information.
And never use a picture of Geno.
For any reason.

I never said we needed more forums, nor did I mention anything about the devs. I just simply said that we should take all these topics and convert them to less.

It would be much more efficient to allow members to post threads in discussion; unless of course, this forum community can't be trusted. Get a good moderator to keep the forums clean of reappearing threads.

How would I do that? By making another thread?

No it wouldn't. That would increase the number of topics.
And the only way to keep those organized is to make subforums.
Which is just more unnecessary forums.
The topics are fine.
No one needs to go to like, page 50 and find something.
Everything needed is currently in the last couple pages of each topic.
You have no need to go through every history.
This also prevents nubs from necroposting.
Having a bunch of topics is unnecessary.
Imagine having topics instead of threads.
There would be a new topic for every sprite.
Every idea.
Every little detail or bug or whatever.

That would cause a lot of time to go through all the s*** and clean out all the idiocy.

But with the thread, you can post things as they happen. They get deal with in a few posts or a page.
There isn't a need for people to go make a topic to describe all of their ideas.
They can just post and it gets sorted out by everyone who reads it.

Seriously, there is nothing worth bringing up in the rest of those pages.
So drop the idea. It's organized enough.

Besides, no dev or mod even reads half of the ideas. They don't care what people think.
That's like, a part of their job.
Most of the ideas are just speculation and wants of the normal users.
The only thing that may get cared about is bugs.

Reappearing threads?
No one can make threads in the Discussion section.

See, you already knew you couldn't make threads in the Discussion Section, so why would you say that?
You would post in the designated topic with details of what you are describing, like, take a picture/video of the bug. Go to the topic. Post something like, "I found a bug where an item gets stuck in the floor if there is more than one on a *insert stage here* and if they say no or no one seems to reply, post it.
For if no one responds, they probably don't know.

I actually do get what Shane is trying to say, and I hope this narrows it down (because if not, I'll make myself look like an idiot :? )

So, being a new-ish member and not posting as much as I have the oppurtunity to, I'm kind of overwhelmed by how large it is. I'm thinking Shane is trying to make that complexity a bit a smaller, to make it a bit more accessable. No, I'm not saying I agree with. I've been on other forums, and I learn the best way to get yourself familiarized with all of it is to take it slow--rather than just spamming the heck out of stuff--and go through a forum at a time (and maybe make a friend or 2 ;) ), yes, even now I still don't feel like checking every last post when I log on, so thank God for that Mark forums read button. But my point is, sooner or later I'll get used to the massivity (A word???) of these forums.
And maybe there is a better and easier way to get used to things rather than taking it slow than I do, but the entire site doesn't need to make changes simply for your comfort, eh?

Anyways, hope I made a good point there, otherwise, I'm an idiot. :3

SSF2 is a project that has been going on for years, of course it's going to have gotten complicated. And no matter how crude and blunt this will sound; nobody cares about what you think it should look like. If you want to involve yourself in a project, you do the effort to adjust to the way they do things, you are the one who needs to do the catching up. The section has no need to function to what you think would be correct, in your mindset.

You suggest taking the topics and conversting them into less... By letting anyone dumb enough to mash their head on a keyboard make a topic? I'm not sure how that works in that twisted head of yours, but more topics does NOT result in less. And don't even get me started on "But a good moderator could keep that place clean." s***. That place would explode with the fury of over a 1000 people with too much free time posting ridiculous threads, and I for one am not going to put any moderator through that hell.

That section is that for you to post in, and is monitored by a group of people who HAVE been keeping track of everything said in there. The continued convenience of the latter precedes the laziness of the former.

I may be one to function on the "why fix what isn't broken?" principle most of the time, but this appears to be closer to the "why not toss a spanner in the gears of something that is working? I'm sure it'll improve if we do it."
