An Extraordinary Gentlemen-esque RPG?

I haven't checked up on MG's RPing scene in years now, but I kinda had an idea and figured I'd see the result...

For those unaware, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is a comic series by Alan Moore, author of V for Vendetta and Watchmen. It began as a series about Victorian age "Superheroes" and eventually became a series in which all fiction exists, creating a world where the events of everything from James Bond to those of Dracula are factual events.

Essencially, this RPG would run with the concept that all Literature, movies and television happened for real (video games would probably not fit though, just in keeping with style) and characters used would be required to either be public domain or must be veiled of copyright (for stylistic purposes and making it feel more like a LOEG story than just a massive crossover. For example a character out of The Hunger Games may be used as long as they are not refered to by their in book name).

It would be tricky business and perhaps a lot of work for little payoff, but maybe it'd be fun. Just a thought

I think it could be possible. I'd definitely be up for it.

That could be worked out. Potter himself was the big bad of the actual books

What are the limits on players?

In terms of powers I'll figure that out if this goes anywhere

In terms of background I suppose they must either be a preexisting character with certain things hidden if they are not public domain (again, style reasons) or have relation to another character from literature, television or film.

This intrigues me.

Just to make sure that I understand correctly, is the idea to write copyright-eschewing versions of existing fictional characters such as, say, Montana Smith or Mandalf the Beige, all of which would exist in the same continuity?

Yes, that's the idea.

I will put some thought into this this weekend and let you guys know how we should proceed

This seems like a perfectly good type of RPG to be in. You can count me in.
