Having a team of all sweepers is never a good idea, because if your opponent has a wall (and they should), up to half of your team will be shut down. This is the case for every gen. Especially in gen 5 where you have Pokemon like Jellicent, Ferrothorn, Blissey, and Skarmory.

@Capeflip: I play gens 5 and 4 competitively. I'm also considering gen 3.

I believe he said "Good" not "Pure" offense. Something like that is common sense to even casuals like me.

Sorry, but the last time I heard that from a guy I was facing, he had a team full of sweepers and my Blissey walled 2/3 of his team. Perhaps I should have said "having a team that mostly consist of sweepers is a bad idea".

Unless you only plan to battle online, I wouldn't recommend that. I don't know when X&Y will have a battle server, but I know it will probably take a month or two. Also, If you plan to play online your gonna have to EV train (which is very tedious). If you change your mind you could use Pokemon Showdown (http://pokemonshowdown.com/).

More I don't want to get used to Gen V's system just before getting into Gen VI. I'll be using Showdown either way since I don't have the attention span to work with EVs or IVs.

gen 6 might have pokegts support in the future. pokegts is is a website where you can load your pokemon files created by the pokegen application for computer. Being able to play online without having to worry about dickheads cheating is a good thing. It's one of the things that makes playing 3DS games online fun compared to playing DS games online.
