I agree with this completely. A character is more than special moves and a Final Smash.

It really depends on the character if you ask me; certain characters have moves (/finishers) that define them pretty well that aren't specials (Falcon's F-air being a prime example). Or cool gimmicks others don't have (DK's Fthrow for example, or Marth's tip). The way Smash Bros. is set up is that the entire moveset is more or less defining.

I personally think Wolf was pretty neat and I hope he returns, although I can understand why people think of him as a clone. Considering all of his non-specials moves are just about different from Fox I'd personally say otherwise but either or it's no reason to start a war. Wolf's moveset is definetly inspired by Fox, so in that sense I think people would be justified in calling them 'similair'.

The game I think should have a few more villains, so if they bring back another star fox I'd take Wolf over Falco since he is more different.
I'm still hoping that the boxing ring stage has something to do with Little Mac being a newcomer, since it's got a ton of the same signs, light fixtures, crowd, logos and such as the punch-out boxing arenas. The only thing that's not like punch-out is the smash logo in the middle of the mat.

Doesn't mean Mewtwo is out though.
Sakurai already stated before that he is thinking about Mewtwo coming back in SSB4.

'bringing old characters back'. It was ripped out of context and assumed that this ment Dr. mario, Pichu, Young Link, Roy and Mewtwo would return, but he ment characters along the line of Ice Climbers, who represent older periods in Nintendo's history book.


For each game they have been considering a couple of NES characters; Pit, Excite Bike Racer, Ice Climbers and Balloon Fighter iirc. Sakurai couldn't get the bike to work and Pit and Ice Climbers have already found their way in, so I'm curious to see if Balloon Fighter will be in, but I kinda think Villager's Uspec nailed that coffin shut.

Sakurai once stated the infamous prat falling is not coming back. But to tell the truth, his answer was very ambiguous as he never stated if random, forced or both kinds of prat falling are gone. If forced prat falling is indeed gone, Diddy Kong's metagame, if he returns of course, may require a different technique for his approaches, or his Banana Peels getting replaced with something else or something similar. Many here are aware that prat falling conforms Diddy Kong's game style and therefore affects his metagame, that currently makes our monkey fellow a high tier character in Brawl. Now, the Lucario update showed two peculiar shots:





While this deliberately doesn't confirm that prat falling is back, we can guess by these shots something strange happened to Lucario. I have a guess, not from these shots, but from Diddy Kong in case he gets back, that forced prat falling is returning. If not, Diddy will have different play style I would like to see, even if he wasn't my main in Brawl.

For those unfamilar with the term, prat falling is the official name for tripping.

Villager has boxing gloves Little Mac is dead.

Fox has a blaster; that didn't stop Falco or Wolf from getting into Brawl, so we still could get both Balloon Fighter and/or Little Mac.

What you're missing is that flying with balloons while wearing that helmet and flapping his arms behind his back is a direct reference to Balloon Fighter. Why would they need to reference Balloon Fighter in Villager's moveset if they could just reference it with his own?

Also: not all boxing gloves are a reference to Little Mac. Boxing is an actual thing that happens in the real world. Don't be stupid
