How do I connect an Xbox 360 controller to my PC?

I did a lot of the stuff the instructions told me to, but now that I'm trying it, it's not showing up on joy.cpl. The Xbox 360 logo is flashing, but past that, it's not noticing.

It has to be a wired controller, it can't just be one with a charger. If you do have that tell me and ill explain further.

It has to be wired if he doesn't want to spend any money, if he said he had wireless I would have posted the exact same link anyways. >.> Hence "I'll explain further"

Then your drivers didn't install properly or there's something wrong with your usb port.

Google search Xpadder, after downloading it, map all the buttons yourself.
