Dude, they've been using the Mystery Gift system since Diamond and Pearl. You select it at the title page before selecting your save file, you select connect via internet, and then it connects to the internet and downloads your Torchic.

Speaking of, I wanna start a new game after I beat the Elite Four so I can play as superior girl clothing race. Can I redownload Torchic in a new save file, or do I need to transfer it out of my game and bring it back in later?

welp, half of my team is ready even if I don't have the game. The thing is, I've always used the same pokemons:
Blue- Charizard, pideot, sandslash, jolteon, kadabra/haunter, cloyster
Crystal- Typhlosion, pidgeot, sandslash, jolteon, haunter/espeon, vaporeon
Emerald- Blaziken, swellow(I think), sandslash, misdreavus/haunter, jolteon and a water type (forgot).

Haunter, Sandslash and Jolteon... I can't live without them. They're my family.

why not gengar?

Especially now when you can pick up the Gengarite and go mega on everyone.

I think I've locked in two of my final team for when my friends decide to battle (once they even get the game). I find them to be pretty clever myself, but I wouldn't mind any suggestions anyone might have.

Ninjask "Black*Star" Naive or Hasty (EVs in SPD and don't even care)
Item: Focus Sash
Ability: Speed Boost
Moves: Double Team, Detect, Baton Pass, Agility

Mawile "Tsubaki" Jolly (EVs in ATK and SPD)
Item: Mawilite
Ability: Intimidate
Moves: Iron Head, Play Rough, Rock Slide, Brick Break

The idea of this particular Duo is using Ninjask to boost Mawile's Evasion and Speed, so that when she goes Mega she can be a Sweeper despite being naturally slow, while avoiding as much damage/thunder waves as possible from faster/Study foes. It helps that Mawile has intimidate so she can hopefully not be one-shotted during the change out turn. As to why Mawile doesn't have a ATK nature is, quite simply, with Huge Power she already has the Highest ATK in the game. Plus, I mean those nicks, those looks, those natures, that's gold.

perhaps get something with toxic spikes and lay two layers down so they're getting damaged while you buff
