what they should do is have
half of the story mode playable on one version (meaning you go through like half the cast's story bits)
and the other half on the other version

Saying half a story makes it seem less attractive, what they should do is have a full story on say the 3DS version, and another full story on the WiiU version that takes place where the 3DS one left off, that way you still get a full story despite not having both games. 3DS one could be shorter probably... And i mean if the WiiU had a different (slightly) conflict than the 3DS story, then they'd feel like two different story modes which would make the two games different from each other in a better way. So do like they did in the Demikids games? With two different stories with the same overall plot and such but with a different conflict and plot points guiding it along?

yeah that sounds about right, how well was that received though? I like the idea of the two games having different story modes but them still being connected somehow.

From what I can tell based on the Wikipedia article the only thing that the games suffered for was something that I doubt would be an issue in SSB4. (Menu problems and near-absent leveling system, apparently.)

Traditionally attack strength is way overvalued, so the slow hard-hitters are worse.
He might be decent like in melee but he's not going to be top tier.
