Nintendo will not hold a major press conference at E3 2013. The news comes via a financial results briefing held today in which Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said he "would like to use this opportunity to talk about this year’s E3."

"We decided not to host a large-scale presentation targeted at everyone in the international audience where we announce new information as we did in the past," Iwata said. "Instead, at the E3 show this year, we are planning to host a few smaller events that are specifically focused on our software lineup for the U.S. market. There will be one closed event for American distributors, and we will hold another closed hands-on experience event, for mainly the Western gaming media."

Nintendo Direct has pretty much made E3 obsolete for them anyway.

This just means "we're going to be at E3 to actually show off our video games to people instead of having a gigantic retarded show and getting Usher on stage and all that s***". It's a good thing.

Yeah, agree with Kyuubit. We'll still get to see all the cool stuff they're showing

I'm pretty disappointed there won't be a "SHOW" to go with the announcements, though. I mean, I'm still hyped to see some Smash, but now we won't be watching it live in the skype chat, and there won't be any memorable moments like the whole reggie feeling like a purple pikmin thing last year

Anyway it will be interesting now to see who "wins" E3, since I've got pretty much no confidence in any of the others

It's easy to see why they wouldn't bother with an press conference. They've been announcing stuff on Nintendo Direct, so anything they could hype, they've already done online. And they've had a lot to pitch over this year. All they really have is Smash 4, which doesn't need an entire press conference for.

I don't think that's the reason at all. They have much more than smash 4, iwata said a bunch of games they will be elaborating on and showing for E3, all of which have only been mentioned in the Nintendo Directs, nothing shown with the exception of Wind Waker HD.
