Well it's not like Wind Waker came out bad, it just didn't live up to its full potential.
Between Hyrule Warriors and Majora's Mask 3D, I've got enough Zelda to hold me over for this release. Even if it just turns out to be Twilight Princess level quality I'll still be glad to have it and glad they put the time in for it.
... Not that I don't like Twilight Princess, it's an excellent game. But one of the weaker 3D console entries in my opinion.

There are all kinds of things that make Zelda games great. Story, gameplay, exploration, atmosphere, characters, story, subversion, all of them great things. But some games are better at some parts than others.

Original Zelda? Love it. But very weak on characters and combat is clunky. But open world is a hell of an experience and the atmosphere is wonderful.

Ocarina of Time? Love it. But less open and more streamlined, even if you can break progression a little.

Majora's Mask? My favorite game of all time. Rich atmosphere, great characters, heck of a world.... And small. Very small. And mostly linear and pretty formulaic.

Skyward Sword? Love it. Yeah you lose a lot of that exploration, but you get a tighter story, some really interesting concepts about Hyrule's past, enjoyable characters and, in my opinion, fun gameplay. Maybe it could have done more as an ancient sequel, but I loved the hell out of the story, Groose, Zelda, the villains and a really good representation of Link as an actual character instead of just a walking swiss army knife.

I know what makes a Zelda game great. It's a lot of stuff.

Twilight Princess is my favorite 3D zelda. It's a very underrated game IMO.

what exactly is wrong with twilight princess outside of the long-ass intro (and skyward sword has a much worse intro anyway)

hard mode: no complaining about how it's "too safe"

wolf segments were f*** awful, and long to boot. lots of items (which albeit were cool on the whole) that weren't really used other than in their specific dungeon, really uninteresting dungeon design bar one or two of them, didn't really feel like there was a lot to do outside of just progressing the story.

after that it's more subjective in that i just didnt really like the art style or story, but you can take or leave those elements. like i like the game, i genuinely don't really dislike any of the zeldas. but it's definitely the weakest 3d entry and probably one of the weakest entries overall
