It's called Storm Player. It's not in English, but it's easy enough to work out what everything does.
The reason it's so good? It plays EVERY TYPE OF MEDIA FILES.
That's pics, vids, and music. Every single format. Whatever you've got, Storm Player works. FLV, MP4, MP3, WMV, AVI, JPG, GIF, PNG, you name it, it'll work on Storm Player. Plus if you're listening to music and you rewind, you actually hear the song played backwards, which is just so cool.

It's technically a codec. And I swear to god, I thought the site was in English. And it comes with Media Player Classic.

You see, I just hop over to CCCP to nab the latest bunch of codecs and MPC, click the exe to install and I'm more or less done.

It's in Chinese. But it's easy to work out what each button does.

Every codec you'll probably ever need. And it's in English.

MPlayer, it's in English, and has over 500 codecs and containers, and comes with it's own encoder.
Downside: It's a command-line app.
Workaround: Get a frontend, like SMPlayer.

The only issue I have with VLC is that it doesn't really have easy to use playlist-saving capabilities.

Subtitle rendering is also a** on VLC but I guess you don't need that.
